Bird Table Runners

Cardinals on a snowy branch, hummingbirds at a trumpet vine, a pair of bluebirds on dogwood — birds are one of the few table runner subjects that work in every season, which is why this group runs to several hundred designs rather than a handful.

Cardinals dominate, partly because they read so well against winter greenery and partly because a lot of people keep one out year round for someone they have lost. There are also owls, robins, chickadees, peacocks, geese and hens if you want something less obvious.

Choose quilted cotton for a soft, matte finish with a bound edge, or velvet for a deeper colour and a bit of sheen. Three lengths, 48, 72 and 108 inches long and 14 inches wide. The design is printed the full length of the runner, so the birds carry across the whole cloth rather than clustering in the centre and leaving the ends blank. Machine washable, made to order in the United States.
